XFM Shows from 2002....want 'em?

Postby thirtyhelens » Thu Jun 30, 2005 5:30 pm

OK, folks, in my eternal quest to share the wealth I think I've hatched a plan to get the XFM Pegg/Frost shows from 2002 out to as many people as possible.

Here's what I need you to do if you're interested: PM me with your name, mailing address and email address. That's it. I'll start a running list in order of when I received your PM and that will determine the order; I'll then send out a master disc w/ the files, maybe more than one if there are a lot of requests, and after you receive it, you can copy the files then send the master on to the next person on the list.

FYI: These are MP3 files, between 100 and 200MB each, so they cannot be burned to CD format. (too long/large). But they can be played on your MP3 player or computer; I figure most folks should be able to stick the CD into your machine, copy the files and then send it on, trying to keep this as populist a proposal as possible. (Mmm, alliteration....) OK, folks, fire away....

ETA if you weren't aware of what these are already: Five MP3s of radio broadcasts from XFM in 2002, recorded by some lovely soul in the UK and converted to digital; The first is Simon and Nick filling in for Ricky Gervais and Steven Merchant in June 2002. The other four are from the week they hosted a show from the Edinburgh Festival in August of the same year; sadly, one of those dates (8/22) is missing, but the rest are here. All are pants-wettingly hilarious. Commercials have been edited out, but the songs remain (and are frequently the same heavy rotation tracks - frankly, I could listen to Underworld repeatedly but maybe you feel otherwise ;) I could certainly go without all that bloody Moby.) in addition to the on-air banter. (I love that word. I'm going to say it again - BANTER! Not to be confused with "banter poodoo"...*snerk* Go on...) Lastly these were recorded straight off the radio the old-fashioned way, no pirating involved; bear in mind this does mean there's an annoying FM hiss some of the time. :P

Slight update: I figure it's smarter if I send out at least two masters, one for US/Canada and one for UK/Europe, to save on postage at least a *little* bit and make things go faster. And I've already got one request for each sooooo....they're goin' out tomorrow. Kelly (Wife of Rolex) in the UK and Amy (simonized) in the US are first on the list; whoever requests next will be who they send it on to. And so on, and so on....

Oooh, ahhh, share the Pegg/Frost luv.... ;)

'Allo, dahlinks - I'm bumping this again because, unless I'm mistaken, the Stateside disc will soon be making its way to the last person currently on the list (That'd be Rachel in NYC; she's "widowspider" over on Spaced Out, if'n you frequent there). So if you want to be the person she sends it to next, or the next person, or even the next person...pleeeeease PM me and you got it, kiddo. ;)

Note: this is for folks in the US and Canada; if you are in the UK or Europe, please PM Kelly (Wife of Rolex) as she's handling that list.

Updating again - the definitive last person on the list (Alan in FL, he's a Spaced Out member) will be receiving the XFM disc next and after that it's COMPLETELY up for grabs!

So if you want copies of the shows Simon and Nick did for XFM in 2002 (4 out of 5 Edinburgh Festival broadcasts, plus one from June where they are sitting in for Ricky Gervais & Steven Merchant) then PM me using the handy dandy little icon below. You're next on the list, you are!!!

Thank you for your patronage. *nod*

NOTE: If you are in the UK, there's another disc making its way 'round Britain; Kelly (Wife of Rolex) was handling the list but it's been passed on to Jade (feckless_dykey_prostitute) so PM her if you're interested.

I'm confused, so if I live in the UK and want a disc I have to post a picture of a dog to your grandmother unless it's the third tuesday of the month in which it must be a german postcard featuring the word 'winklemesser' and some schnitzel?

Apologies for my first post being within this forum, but I seem to have stumbled onto some XFM gold with your thread here 'thirtyhelens'

I'll PM you with my details to get the XFM shows.

Yes I'm really from Alaska

I am a new fan of Simon and Nick---thru the XFM radio shows. I only have two of the shows--the June stand-in show and the last one from the Edinburgh Festival. These guys are fantastic--can't believe they only did these few shows on XFM.

I'm active over on the Pilkipedia forum....same alias. Funny thing--over there we only have these two shows right now, the one I mentioned. I would be eternally greatful to have them all.

cheers love

Over on pilkipedia we have two of the shows uploaded to a file-sharing site. one show is the saturday show when they subbed for RG and Smerch, the other is the last Edinburgh show, dated 23 August. One of the 23 august shows is 64kbps, and we just got one uncut at 128kbps.

i like it when i find an xfm show with the songs and adverts left in. they play a nice mix of music that is near impossible to find on american terrestrial radio

so without further ado:

Ricky Gervais' request for people to listen to XFM--'Wont kill ya!!'
(as heard on the Simon and Nick xfm show, isolated)

Okay folks, for your hard work and patience here be the first of the missing shows. Show date is 19August2002, at the Edingburgh festival, with Karl Pilkington producing (or just pushing buttons and telling stories about Manchester an' that)

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=BYRGCJ8C

Thanks so much to thirtyhelens for uploading all the shows, and to Pat19171 over on Pilkipedia.co.uk for posting each show separately in smaller bits. He has promised the remainder (that would be Tues and Wed from Edinburgh) tomorrow.

Thanks for the link! Having the talky bits in smaller files might be something folks here would find handy.

(There is some great music in those shows but there's also a lot of repeats. They didn't get to program the whole of it, of course - drive time on XFM, what ya gonna do? ;) )

one of the other blokes on pilkipedia is providing links to the shows WITH music in...so you get to choose yeay or nay, or is that 'achida'
how DOES one spell it anyway?

Here is the 29June2002 show (subbing for Gervais and Merchant on a Saturday I think):
http://www.sendspace.com/file/3ibbhi

the 19August show is in my previous post^^^^

and HERE is the Tuesday 20 August show. Songs edited out.
Apparently this recording has lots of static/background noise.

Here is the 21 August show:

and here is the 23 August show:
http://www.sendspace.com/file/c351lm

the previously missing shows, WITH the songs left intact, will be posted here in a subsequent post as soon as I can bring the links over from Pilkipedia.co.uk. A nice bloke from the Netherlands has kindly made those shows available.

Yea, unfortunately it does, but it's all we've got. I tried to clean up the static but couldn't. And with Michael Smiley's brilliant Bay City Rollers bit, we'll take what we can get. ;)

Seems over on pilkipedia we have a few blokes working on the shows, using some software to reduce the static as much as possible.

But in the meantime, not to get too confusing, I now have the links to all the UNEDITED shows, courtesy of a fan in The Netherlands:
