SNAKES ON A PLANE! You know you want some...

Postby thirtyhelens » Fri Mar 17, 2006 2:05 pm

OK, I don't know how many of you have been following the hype on this, but here's the deal: Snakes. On a plane. That's the plot of the film. And yes, it really is called Snakes On A Plane. No one really seems to know to what degree the movie's in on the joke, or actually trying to play it straight, but come on....they have to know, right?

Anyway, the first trailer footage is on the net now:

Take Sam Jackson out of the shark's mouth, take the snake from Anaconda and make him spit out Jon Voight, put them both in the same movie......

I can hardly wait.

This teaser got one of the biggest audience reactions I've ever seen on Friday night. Guess that backlash was short-lived. Heh.

I'm unsure what to think of it, there's a fine balance between silly/cool and silly/shit.

Saw the trailer before X3 and everyone was cheering for it. I'll probably see it.

When internet phenomena collide...

ALL YOUR SNAKES ARE BELONG TO US!

Frankly, I'm surprised it took someone this long... ;)

Ehehehe. My favorite part is that drawing of the snakes in the cockpit saying "Whee!" Yeah, I'm easily amused.

The Intel-inspired "Snakes Inside" is what put me over. </nerd>

Jeez, this sumbitch is going to drop in a little over a week.....what is the 'net gonna do without the hype?

*giggles* Ah, Sam.... runnin' his mouth off again. ;)

(FYI - If anyone is confused, go to http://www.snakesonaplane.com and click "Get A Call From Samuel L. Jackson" in the bottom corner. Tee hee.)

Well....just got back from the Sunday matinee.

Did it live up to the hype? Honestly? - No, not really. That said, short of a snake slithering off the screen into the audience and up into your lap, followed by Sam Jackson leaping off the screen, running up the aisle, grabbing the snake, beating it senseless against the chair next to you, then turning to you and asking if he might have a sip of your tasty beverage... I don't know that anything realistically could.

It is, however, a lot of good*, gory, loud, stupid fun. Which won't be nearly enough for some, I'm sure, but it's all they're going to get.

Also? Someone had better write Julianna Margulies a serious, kick ass action role some day or I'm going to have to let loose the muthafuckin' snakes. *nod*

(*Note "good", not "great" - if Ronny Yu had stayed on it might have been prime schlock. Oh, well.)

It lived up to all my expectations. And I loved it. :shifty:

The audience was an important part. When the snakes are finally showed in the cargo hold, someone exclaimed, "Holy shit! Are those snakes?" And, of course, the theater broke out in cheers, hollers and applause when Samuel L. said "the line" ...

The audience was an important part.

I reckon it is; it might have been a fuller experience if we'd seen it with the insane crowds. I had two birthdays on Thursday and Friday, tho, so there went that idea. ;)

I think The New York Times is losing it. Manohla Dargis pretty much liked it, said that snakes + plane + Samuel L. Jackson was all you really needed to know, and that it was a solid B movie. She wasn't at all bothered by the fact that it wasn't screened for critics.

Which is probably all it needed to be to do really well. It did okay, but not great.

And no, I didn't see it, not my thing. But I was really curious to see how it would do.
